Oaxaca, formerly called “Huaxyácac“, is the capital of the state of Oaxaca. The colonial center of the city, with narrow streets and historical buildings, they form a beautiful urban scenery that they move to the traveler to another epoch. Also in the city there abound the art galleries, the shops of craft, and the museums. It is a question of one of the most cultural cities of Mexico, being the free time one of its main points. And the fact is that the city offers an endless number of bars and restaurants where to do a high place in the way and to savor a coffee or to dare to prove its typical grasshoppers (fried grasshoppers!)

- Oaxaca cathedral
The socket is a good place to test the ambience, just as the Alamedea of León, opposite to the cathedral (constructed in 1553 and finished in the XVIIIth century). A really magic place.
Surroundings of the socket we observe a few fronts escuñidas that adorn the colonial churches of The Company and God's Saint John. Also about the socket we can observe the theater Macedonio Alcalá constructed in the French style and that has a stairs of marble and an auditorium with capacity for 1300 persons.
Pedestrian and surrounded of colonial buildings, the street of Alcala passes from the urban center up to the church of Santo Domingo. Here we can buy all kinds of craft or enjoy of an evening of museums. Speaking about museums, in the same street Alcala finds the contemporary Art museum of Oaxaca. A museum that we must not get lost if we want to see the works of any of the artists from Oaxaca most known as Rufino Tamayo or Francisco Toledo.
Located four apples to the north of the cathedral, The Church of Santo Domingo is the most splendid church of the city, with a beautiful baroque front adorned with impressive sculptures, where we find the figure of Santo Domenico. Behind the Church the garden is located etnobotánico, an important sample of the biodiversity of the region. And next to the Church there is the Museum of the Cultures of Oaxaca, which will allow us to know first hand the history from Oaxaca and the culture.
