Its first settlers date of about the 100th century a.c, that called to this place B'aakal (Bone). The current name is of Spanish origin, fruit is of the colonization. The city reached importance thanks to Pakal, that from 615 to 683 reigned. During its reign there were constructed numerous squares and temples, which ruins survive at present, offering an immersed really magic scenery in full forest. In many of the ruins it is possible to observe, still, remains of painting in which Pakal is represented, by means of jeroglíf cos of the suns and shields.

In 900 Wooden palisade was left and on having been located in an area of strong rains, it remained hidden under the weeds. The city remained secret to the western world until 1746, when a few Mayan hunters rebelled the existence of this establishment to a Spanish priest. Finally, one century later, Wooden palisade was studied by an American archaeologist.
