Its name comes from the Arab wād to - ḥ aŷara واد الحجرة or وادي الحجرة, that it means «Rio of Stones» or «vale of the fortitude». The conqueror Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán named this way the city in honor to its hometown: Guadalajara, Spain.
The city is one of the more important cultural, industrial and economic head offices of the country. It is known in the world by its traditions, its cultural and recreational attractions, and by its gastronomy, its solid cultural identity has given him iconographic image to the country. While the contemporary Guadalajara is an economic pole as industrial, commercial and of services infrastructure in Mexico, also it is provided with a legacy of four centuries and a half of culture, visible in its architecture, folklore and traditions.
